Telemedicine for (Digital) Clinician Scientists (Part 1/2)

Telemedicine as a sub-area of telematics in the health care system is based on the principle that medical services of patient care are provided over spatial distances and/or temporal shifts. The range of applications now includes almost all medical specialties in the fields of diagnostics, therapy, rehabilitation and decision support. Telemedicine includes information and communication technologies, which in turn require interoperability of communication partners and bring along further technical and legal challenges such as ensuring data quality and data protection. Nevertheless, telemedical applications represent an added value for patients in many areas and can complement medical action as a supporting component. In many medical fields, telemedical methods and procedures of patient care are being scientifically investigated or tested in pilot projects.
