Women's contribution to scientific research has often been downplayed or even ignored, and the scientific world is still predominantly male-dominated. To remedy this, the exhibition “Berlin - Capital of Women Scientists”, conceived by the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH), aims to highlight the diverse backgrounds and profiles of Berlin-based women scientists from the late 19th century to the present day. Biologist, computer scientist, neuroscientist, archaeologist, sociologist, scientists past and present, their careers will undoubtedly inspire the scientists (men and women) of tomorrow.
To mark the opening of the exhibition at the maison heinrich heine, Juliane Siegeris, a specialist in business informatics, and Theda Borde, a professor of social medicine, will discuss the still minority presence of women in the sciences, the causes of this situation and the possible levers to be put in place for greater equality of opportunity. Stefanie Stegemann, Director of the Scientific Service of the German Embassy, will welcome the participants. Emmanuelle Charpentier, winner of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, will also be present.
The exhibition runs from 9 April to 4 May from 10 am to 6 pm in the foyer.
Registration is required, admission is free.
