In 2024, AI adoption in healthcare has largely focused on proof-of-concept (POC) implementations, especially with Generative AI. While these pilots show promise, scaling AI to drive clinical and operational impact remains the real challenge.

In May 2021, the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) commissioned the DigitalRadar Hospital consortium to evaluate the digital maturity level of German hospitals (in accordance with Section 14b KHG) as part of the Hospital Future Fund (KHZF).

The results of the first survey (2021) were published in 2022. The second survey, in which almost 1,600 hospitals again participated, took place in 2024. In this session, Prof. Dr Sylvia Thun and Prof. Dr Volker Amelung will present an in-depth analysis of the current results and take a look at the level of digitalisation in the German hospital landscape. They will show that the DigitalRadar can serve as an outstanding research basis for digitalisation in the healthcare sector and will also present the patient perspective for the first time.

The exponential increase in health data not only opens up new avenues for prevention and personalised medicine, but also for health research. In recent years, there has been much discussion about the ePA, data protection, regulation and approaches to making data available, and numerous projects and initiatives have emerged around interoperable structures for collecting healthcare data and real-world data.

At the same time, the question arises as to how these immense amounts of data can be stored and processed so that they can be meaningfully researched and thus enable real innovation towards personalised medicine.

In this panel discussion, Prof Dr Christopher Baum discusses with Prof Dr Dr Christian Dierks, Prof Dr Sarah Neuwirth, Dr Anita Puppe and Prof Dr Petra Ritter how so-called supercomputing approaches can be meaningfully combined with healthcare and research in order to accelerate the development of new therapies in the long term and enable innovative approaches to complex diseases.

SHEALTH @ DMEA: Stopping the backlash - digitalisation as an opportunity to empower women in the healthcare sector The digitalisation of the healthcare sector holds enormous potential to reduce gender inequalities and empower women in a targeted manner. However, while technologies are creating new access and opportunities, we are also experiencing a social backlash that manifests or even reinforces existing inequalities.

How can we counteract this with digital solutions? How can we ensure that innovations not only bring about technological progress, but also social progress? In this SHEHEALTH session, we will discuss how digital health applications, interoperable systems and AI-powered solutions can promote gender-sensitive healthcare. We will highlight best practices, challenges and the need for interdisciplinary dialogue to sustainably empower women in medicine and society.

Let's develop strategies together to use digital change as a catalyst for real equality!
