After six years, an international BIH Charité Clinician Scientist Symposium was once again held in Berlin on June 20 and 21, 2024, attracting around 170 participants to the Villa Elisabeth (Berlin Mitte). The aim of the symposium was to promote scientific exchange between the program participants as well as interdisciplinary networking and to establish and expand international cooperation. (Digital) Clinician Scientists had the opportunity to invite internationally renowned physicians and scientists as speakers - this gave them the chance to discuss their project with leading figures from their own field of research. The varied program consisted of “tandem sessions” by fellows and leading international experts from the respective research fields, poster sessions and workshops. In addition, two current topics were discussed in two panel discussions including keynote speeches: 1. “We can get it if we really want? Joining efforts towards gender equality in academic medicine” and 2. ‘Crafting Relevant Research Goals - A Panel Discussion on Patient Engagement and Other Strategies to Ensure That Our Research Really Matters’. Prof. Dr. Ulrich Kintscher, Vice Dean for Research with a Clinical Focus at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and Prof. Dr. Christopher Baum, Chairman of the BIH Board of Directors and Head of the Translational Research Department at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, were the keynote speakers.
