BIH Biomedical Innovation Academy
Current medical and basic scientific training is structured by discipline and does not leave much space for translational career paths. In addition, the day-to-day clinical duties of physicians leaves little time for scientific work. Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) offers outstanding scientists and clinicians dynamic new career possibilities at all career stages, coordinated by the BIH Biomedical Innovation Academy (BIA).
Using new career paths and incentives for excellent physicians and basic scientists, the emergence of a new generation of translation oriented biomedical researchers is being strived for. Especially research focused physicians and basic scientists interested in clinically relevant research questions.
BIA embeds a culture of translation and entrepreneurial spirit in structured career paths. The overall goals are to develop an innovative training pipeline and to facilitate a community of next-generation translational and clinician scientists and biomedical entrepreneurs.
BIA specifically promotes women in their academic career and is committed to a good work-life balance. Program participants have e.g. the possibility, in consultation with the program management, to pause their personal support by up to 18 months in the context of maternity and parental leave.
BIA is part of the Center for Transforming Biomedical Research established to further understand and overcome the hurdles of the translational process.
